Our Camping Barn stands at the foot of Narrowdale hill just outside the village of Alstonefield and is part of our 200 acre sheep and beef farm. It is reached by an old bridle path which has been upgraded to allow access to the barn where car parking spaces are provided. With lovely views and dale walks in all directions our barn sleeps a maximum of 12 people and is a most excellent base for walkers, cyclists, scouts, Duke of Edinburgh and school groups etc; as well as small numbers of individuals. The barn is inspected by VisitBritain and meets their camping barn standard.
The picturesque village of Alstonefield is within easy walking distance (about one and a half miles). The nearest shop is at Hulme End (2 miles) where milk, newspapers and provisions are available. There are many local country inns serving a wide selection of meals.
Accommodation
Camping Barns are sometimes known as stone tents providing basic communal accommodation. The ground floor comprises entrance lobby with coat hooks and plenty of room for storing boots, rucksacks, etc. Leading off from this is the cooking, eating and living area with two large picnic tables and cooking bench. There is a separate flush toilet and hand wash basin and a cold water tap at the front of the barn for washing dirty boots. The sleeping area is on the first floor and has lovely views from both windows.
What you will need to bring
Please bring your usual camping equipment, a good sleeping bag, (weight according to season) and a foam mat. Warm clothes, walking boots or stout shoes. As there is no electricity at the barn you must bring one torch per person. For safety reasons it is not advisable to use ordinary candles - please use only the flat safety nightlights with guards. You will also need cooking utensils (saucepans, plates, cutlery etc) and a camping stove and fuel.
